Rating: - Excellent for mixing
I bought these yesterday in for almost twice the price in hmv, big mistake after looking at the price on here. so i tried using them with my ipod and to be honest they sounded quite tiny and i was quite disapointed. but then i plugged them into my mixer to b used with my turntable and they soun ded great, very warm with a good range. so i wouldnt recomend these with a cd player or ipod/mp3 but i strongly recomend using them with some kind of amp. great cans!
Rating: - Comfortable and excellent value
Bought a pair of these for £[...] - unbeatable value at the price. I found them extremely comfortable to wear and the sound quality (mainly DAB radio, classical CDs and talking books) was fine. Highly recommended.
Rating: - Comfort over quality
On first impressions these headphones were nice and light, and very comfortable to wear because of the large ear pads. Plugging them into my Sony CD walkman, the sound was pretty good - a pleasant stereo image, sweet bass tones and crisp treble. The middle range sounded a little tinny but this may be because I was not using a hi-fi amp. Despite the all-round ear cover music does leak out pretty badly. What might be of interest to potential buyers though is that the sound quality (based on tests listening on a CD walkman) does not reach the heights of the XDR-V300, which has a truly vibrant and bright sound that is totally immersive much more so than these XDR-XD200 phones. Some of that quality has been exchanged for comfort of wear. A good buy for the price nevertheless.
Rating: - Sony MDR-XD200 Stereo Headphones - Silver
The XD200s are better yet, offering greater speed and resolution. They're among the most resolving headphones I have heard, of any type.
The magic of the XD200s is their midrange--a purity of tone, especially when driven by tubes, that is quite special.
The "XD200s' new housing is an excellent absorber of energy, making sure that nonmusical resonances never reach your ears.
The XD200s' construction quality is excellent, as is the comfort they provide.
Still, with good amplification the 'phones sounded better yet: more detailed, more dynamic, cleaner and faster. With these 'phones, I especially like the Cary CAD-300SEI integrated and the Musical Fidelity X-Cans. In other words, toobs.
The Sony MDR-XD200s have a suggested retail of £30, but the online price, at Amazon, is about £14 less. That makes the sony's a very compelling buy.
Rating: - Only for the apathetic.
I have used mine for a while now. They are OK but who wants that? Get something that you will be happier with.
The audio/video switch is a redundant gimmick and they are heavy and will hurt the top of your head after continuous of use.
