I got a 940 in December 08 and I wouldn't buy it again. Firstly, I am not completely happy with the device. For all the hype about accurate mapping and IQ routes, I have found them to be inaccurate. I have tried planning a number of routes I know well in any case, so that I could evaluate the suggested routes, and more than 50% of the routes were unlikely - some I simply would not recommend in any circumstances short of the more likely roads being closed. Another problem is that some of the routes suggested are dangerous, because thay contravene local driving prohibitions. On the other hand, to be fair, a few days ago I tried the 940 on a journey to an out-of-the-way country location that might have been difficult had I simply been using maps and the device worked effectively, although again with hindsight I would question the route it took. Secondly, I am less than happy with the company and its promotion tactics. It seems grossly misleading to sell the item by peddling features that are only available on a subscription basis after a short trial period. It's a bit like buying a colour telly and then being told that after a few months the colour picture will only be available if you pay extra for it. Also the support from Tomtom is poor. Read More Rating: - Another broken Live Services TomTom 940My new 940 arrived on the last day of the year, and Problem #1 was that Vista x64 won't talk to it - to fix modify TomTom Home icon to work in XP SP2 compatibility mode and it will start talking. Next, Problem #2 was that the "Live Services" - the whole point of having a 940, does not work yet. Have been through the factory default settings (equivalent of have you turned it off and on again), and have logged a call with support, but on a supposed "mature" product line this is really not on. So, lovely device, I don't mind paying for the live services, if only I could get some.... My last encounters with TomTom support have not been pretty (wait until you break a phone running Navigator...), so I'm not expecting any better now. Rating:  - Tom Tom 940 LIVE (or not!)Tom Tom appear to have huge probles with these devices. Along (apparenrtly) with many other units, the live services do not work at all. The unit constantly brings up an error message that imforms you that it is unable to connect to the server due to being inn a foreign country (which it isn't). After receiving this device directly from TOMTOM and spending half an hour on the tomtom support phone number every day for the past week (since receiving this device new), they are unable to fix it and all they can do is "Escalate" the problem. If you are deciding whether it's worth upgrading from a previous tomtom to benefit from the live services.......don't. Rating: - TomTom GO 940A really excellent piece of kit. IQ routes are great. However the TomTom Live Services did not work from the start even though I called TomTom tech support before I tried to connect, as I heard there could be problems. TomTom themselves really have no idea why it does not work and are not able to escalate. One technician told me "only" about 3 out of 10 don't function with Live Services. When I phoned back this morning another technician said it was more like 60% not working. Not one person had any idea why this was the case or when it was likely to be solved. So if you are getting this because of the fantastic sounding HD Traffic or other live services - beware. DONT BUY UNTIL THEY HAVE SORTED OUT THEIR PROBLEMS. If you dont need the HD Traffic, get a 920 or 930. Rating: - Don't buy one yetBought the 940 two weeks ago and it has been nothing but trouble. Speed camera alerts are not working properly and Traffic does not work at all. TomTom support answer is that no fix available yet and they will let me know if one is available ... but not when! They should fix bugs first then sell the units not the other way around. Mine is going back for a refund and I shall revert to using my 910.
