Product Description: The TomTom Go 530 is jam-packed with features, including a handful of new functions. First, the TomTom Go 530 comes preloaded with detailed TeleAtlas maps, calculating the fastest and shortest ways to get to your destination, and a host of points of interest, so you can stop off during your journey and visit a popular tourist attraction on your route. The Go 530 is also equipped with Bluetooth technology, meaning you can pair it up with a compatible mobile phone, and an FM transmitter for streaming music wirelessly through your car radio. In addition to new visual aids, you continue to get vocal turn-by-turn directions through your car speakers; and as with all the latest satellite navigation devices from TomTom, the Go 530 has the MapShare feature, giving you the most up-to-date maps by allowing you to make adjustments to your maps, such as noting blocked roads, adding new streets and so on, and then sharing this information with other drivers. With the Go 530, TomTom gives us another example of what makes it the leader on the satellite navigation market!
Rating: - TOMTOM is a great device but is unreliable and keeps crashing
Hello
I am very disappointed with TOMTOM. I purchased the device back in September and only one month later I am experiencing serious issues with it. It is the 520 Traffic edition. It use to reboot when I was driving in the car and for the last few weeks I have had the dreaded red X issue that a lot of people are talking about. I have formatted the drive as recommended on the TOMTOM web site. I have even resorted to downloaded a FLASH clearing utility and have had to re-install ALL the software. You do get the option to restore from backup but I did this before and the issue re-appeared.
We all need a "reliable" device and I can not rate this device high because it simply is not reliable. After one month, I would definitely not recommend anyone to purchase this device which TOMTOM do not appear to have fixed. It is simply not good enough that people part with their money and purchase something like this (with so many other products on the market) and it proves soooo unreliable. IN my opinion a great device when it was working which I would rate highly but the unreliability of the device means I can not rate this more than one star I'm afraid. I am now stuck with a device I can not use! TOMTOM need to get their act together. I personally will never but another TOMTOM again and only bought the item because What Car rated it highly. They obviously did not have it long enough to test fully.
On a positive note, TOMTOM do have good customer support ... Read More
Rating: - Poor Mac support
If you want to operate your 520 from TomTom Home OS X, you'll be very lucky because mine crashes every time. It's a commonly known fault.
Apart from this annoying bug in TomTom's software, it's OK.
Rating: - Good product let down by faults and appalling customer service
I had my 530 for about 2 months. The device itself if simple to use, has good features and is quick to route and re-route. Lane assist is good (though not always up to date) and spoken instructions are clear (though with some hilarious mispronunciations using a computer voice to read out street names).
However, the device started randomly shutting down and re-starting, losing the planned route and the most recent navigation address (meaning the address had to be typed again which driving). In one 150 mile drive it re-booted 8 times!
I found TomTom support to be one of the worst I have ever come across. In the end I persuaded the shop where I purchased from to allow me to upgrade (it was out of their returns policy, but they could not believe the lack of support I was receiving) and acquired a TomTom 930T which was also faulty (reviewed separately).
If you get one that is not faulty then you will be happy with it. However if you are unlucky enough to get a faulty one then be prepared for a world of aggravation attempting to get it resolved. I really cannot recommend TomTom to anyone.
Rating: - Go 530
As this is my first sat nav unit I have found it be very good. I am in and out the car a lot everyday for work as yet I've had no problems with the mounting system coming detached from the window unlike a previous post. It is easy to use and has a very clear display.
What is good with this unit is the blue tooth function allowing you to pair a mobile phone for hands free use, doing away with the need for either a car kit or an ear piece and the quality is good.
The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the fact you need to keeping plugging / unplugging the power lead and antenna lead if required , however the batteries are good enough to last the full day.
Rating: - Spoilt by cheap and nasty mount
Just purchased a GO 530 to replace my GO 710 and am very dissapointed to say the least!. With the 530, the unit itself is good but the actual windscreen mount is absolute rubbish!. The mount on the 710 was very good as once it was installed it was very secure, and as it had the power lead connection incorporated into it, it was very easy to attach and remove the unit. The new mount is very flimsy by comparrison, its now difficult to attach the unit, and as it has no power lead attachment, every time the unit is attached or removed, the power lead has also to be plugged in or unplugged. The new mount has also fallen off the windscreen 5 times in two days, this never happened with the 710 style mount. This may seem like a minor point, however I use this unit for my work as a mobile locksmith so for security reasons I need to remove the unit every time I park, this can be many times per day, so what was very easy to do has now become time consuming and fiddly!. I can appreciate why they have done this, the new design will be much cheaper to produce, however this has degraded what was a very good design and I will not be purchasing TomTom products in the future if they persist with this style of mount. In short, great unit, but look elsewhere if you need to remove it more than a couple of times per day.
