I bought this to replace my old sat nav on a PDA, which was out of date and not upgradable. I wanted a system which was reliable, upgradable, and had a some features to satisfy my gadget side!
In the end I plumped for the 930T after looking at the 730T and Garmins systems. It is a bit on the pricy side, but it can be justified.
The good points? First lets start with the most important thing- its choice of routing. It uses this 'IQ routes' which I have to say I was sceptical, however it is fairly good- yes there are still some points where you might not choose that route being local, but other times it does know the local shortcuts. I was particularly impressed with it on my home to work journey. It took me right at the junction before my work and down a local road to avoid a queue in the morning (a well known local shortcut) however in the evening on the way home took me on to the normal junction when there is no queue! That was really impressive and if TomTom have managed this for other areas, they have done well.
The screen is big, has good resolution and is clear to read. It can be a bit of a problem in strong sunshine shining onto it, but this happens rarely in the U.K and it can still be read without too much effort.
The mobile phone feature is excellent, I make great use of my sat-nav simply as a hands-free rather than a navigational tool if I know the route. It works very well, and is easy to use with my Sony- I can ... Read More

I have always been a loyal supporter of tom tom nothing can beat them in their products usability but this version has been let down by its battery life, it doesnt have a battery indicator telling you how long is left and doesnt last very long anyway so always needs to be plugged in which brings on the problem of taking everything apart everytime you leave the car especially with the traffic information aerial not being built in. This has also meant that the main power supply wire has to be plugged in at all times so is over your legs while driving if you want it in the corner of the windscreen or up the centre console if in the centre of the windscreen.
Sorry to say even though best TomTom ever for its software I am selling mine own for considerably less than paid needing to have a built in system from my car manufacturer which will also take away the risk of having it stolen
Rating: - Great All Round Unit But...
Amazing Tom Tom,
I use it whereever I go and has never let me down.
Its very easy to use and the applications on the actual device are excellent. Best Tom Tom Ever but...
The two areas where this Tom Tom lets itself down big time are the TMC Reciever and the Suction cup.
TMC never works well and the Suction Cup has been very cheaply made unlike my old one on the 910 where it locks onto the window screen.
I think they have rectified these two matters on the new Tom Tom Go Live 940.

Bought this model from Amazon in May 08, it started to lock up pretty soon after this. Would put it on charge and it would not start up, have only used it for a couple of journeys. Contacted Tomtom and they arranged for it to be sent back for repair. It is great when it works, which has not been to often. Just got it back from Tomtom and the report said it had replaced the main board. When I switched it on and reset my settings , I had an error message appear ? Anyway set it all up and then I noticed it had become a 920 T on splash screens and on a welcome screen, contacted tomtom and spoke to a woman, who had a suspicous American accent, probably a call centre in Bombay. She assured me this was ok. Have sent email to Tomtom to find out why my model has changed.
Like I say when it works, its pretty good, but for the last 5 or 6 months that has not been to often, for nearly £400 It has been a great let down.
Rating: - Tomtom GO 930T - EXCELLENT!! Better Than Tomtom 6 Navigator
Usually I dont leave reviews on products I get unless it is exceptional - and this is!!
This product, although expensive, is well worth its money. Got one last week and read some reviews about the traffic announcments being usless - that is utter rubbish to the point that I doubt the ariel was even pluged into the reviews unit! This unit has the version 3 traffic ariel and with it laying on the car dashboard it picked up a strong signal in minutes both out in the countryside and in Central London! The traffic updates are excellent - when travelling along it keeps in constant contact with the RDS channel and then prompts you to click on yes or no or even say it to re-route. That option is given after it has picked up traffic and told you how long the delay is - one traffic delay was 16 minutes due to Thams Water digging up Lower Thams Streeet near the Tower OF London (a delay I knew that would exist) and the second one was a delay of 4 minutes on Euston Road late at night - saw the traffic as the unit took me over the road and away from it :)
I have had Tomtom Navigator 5 and 6 for many years on a Pocket PC and this item is so much better - the Traffic is well worth its extra money and the advanced GPS tracking even when you loose a signal is very good. The signal pickup of satalites is excellent and you are connected in seconds and reading the directions out to you is much better and easier to use. The menu structure is the same but the voice recognition ... Read More
