Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sennheiser PX100 vs Koss PortaPro
Since everyone else has concentrated on the virtues of these excellent headphones, I thought it might be useful for people (who have researched) to offer the following subjective insights about the PX100 and their main rival, the Koss Porta Pro (which is also available from amazon at a similar price point).

I own both sets, so I would like to issue the following comments about their relative sound quality.

PX100 - These offer a very beautiful, well rounded sound. Not bass heavy, but very coherent, and thoroughly enjoyable as a listening experience. They tend to improve with 'run in', and sound terrific overall.

PortaPro - These offer better bass reproduction, but also sparkling mids and highs. They seem to produce a far richer sound overall, especially when comparing the same songs encoded in the same format (WAV) on a Cowon D2 personal media player.

In short, both these sets are excellent, but if the sole criterion is sound quality, my preference is just slightly for the Koss PortaPros.

I hope this review is useful to people who are on the fence, especially as no one else seems to have covered this comparison in their reviews.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - remarkably good for the money
Another thumbs up for the PX100s. It's not that they're the best headphones I've heard - they're the lowest-spec of my three pairs of Sennheisers, but also considerably the cheapest, and I just can't imagine better sound for the money. I use them mainly when on the move with my Sony NWZA818.

Out of the box they may disappoint, with a sound that's weighted towards the bass and a treble that needs a good few hours playing-in to open up. But once played in the sound is pretty well-balanced: still a tiny bit bass-heavy, but not a swampy, boomy bass: it has definition and pace, and gives a surprisingly good impression of deep bass extension. The treble is sweet and clear (none of the raspy sibilance I've had with cheap headphones in the past) and there's a sense of clear definition throughout. What most obviously differentiates them from my next headphones up (Sennheiser HD 497, no longer available I think) is the soundstaging: they can't give as convincing an impression of separate instruments laid out distinctly across a defined acoustic space. But for less than twenty quid I can't believe you'll get better than this.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GLORIOUS
Bought a pair of these for use with a portable CD player and rated them very highly. Then my wife bought me an iPod and I ripped my music at 256 bit. These really make the music come alive. Remember, an iPod is only a small portable device, not a fantasticlly expensive Naim sysetm. You won't get that sort of quality from anything except, well a Naim system.

For use on the go, where it is still important to hear what's around, then I don't think I can better them. I tried the PX200 and didn't like them at all. I also have a pair of CX300 which are graet for the price (if you can live with the very tinny high end) and these blow them away.

To sumarise. These represent some of the best money I have ever spent. And this is coming from a displaced Scott!! Buy them, and you won't be dissapointed. The only very small neagtive is that they tend to fall off when you bend down. Simple solution, look after your back and crouch down instead.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Cable prone to malfunction - beware!
This is the first review I've written and am doing so to warn people about a recurring problem I've had with PX100s and PX200s. I've just got a refund for my fourth pair of entry level sennheiser tins, all of which lost sound in one phone due to cable wear. Despite this I keep coming back for more as they're good for the price and they seem to fail consistently within the warrenty period so I've only paid once:) If you can be bothered to keep requesting replacements from amazon/sennheiser then I'd recommend as a buy! As other reviews no doubt mention they leak a lot of sound so don't buy if you like to blast your choons but don't want to annoy fellow commuters. Perhaps they are fine for strolling around but I also use them for running, maybe this is what keeps causing the cable to bite the dust.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - At this price, you won't get much better than these...
I was alerted to these headphones after the Which? website reccomended them. I was looking for a pair of affordable headphones which still managed excellent sound quality and comfort and I was not dissappointed by the Sennheiser PX100. I use them whilst walking, commuting and running (for busses).

The pads on the inside of the headband make these headphones extremely comfortable. I would highly recommend this style over the in-ear buds for comfort too. They are also convenient and portable as they fold to fit a carry case (the case itself is actually not entirely necessary). On top of this, the sound quality is surprisingly good for its depth and bass - the volume isn't dissappointing either. I listen to every genre from classical to jazz and from reggae to metal and everything inbetween, so I'd recommend them for whatever you're listening to. The design is simple and inoffensive, but still stylish. Both the wire and jack plug are perfectly proportioned.

However, there are two disadvantages (which are very minor). If, like me, you're iPod headphone socket is damaged (many iPods of late have this problem) then it's not so easy to keep the jack plugged half-way into the iPod (the only solution to the problem). But this is a fault of my iPod and in no way reflects an error of design in the headphones. A more important disadvantage is sound leakage. This is a common problem with headphones of this style and so is difficult to avoid.
